The Story Behind Blackwater Lights

The online speculative fiction magazine Upcoming4.me has published the story-behind-the-story of Blackwater Lights. I go a little out on a limb here, too, because telling people that you've seen bizarre, anomalous lights in the sky is guaranteed to generate criticism. But I'm happy telling the truth. The world is a strange place, mystery abounds, and, as Charles Fort wrote in New Lands:

"People with a psychological need to believe in marvels are no more prejudiced and gullible than people with a psychological need not to believe in marvels.”

I don't necessarily have a need to believe, but I do trust my observation and my discrimination. And I can tell you—without reservation—that the lights I saw in the sky in 1990 defy every conventional explanation. What were they? I have no clue. But I know what they weren't.
