Bob Ross and H. R. Giger

Bob Ross paints in the style of H. R. Giger

Few people know that Bob Ross, host of The Joy of Painting (PBS), had a nine-month apprenticeship with H. R. Giger in the mid 1980s. The relationship ended on a sour note*, but Ross painted nine Giger-inspired canvases while studying in Switzerland. Unfortunately, all nine paintings were were destroyed in a fire in Prague in 2006.

*Ross claimed that Giger was “demonic” and playing with “wicked magic.” Giger told Le Monde, “Bob had a mental breakdown. He needed to go home.”

And over here, behind this biomechanical shrub, there lives a happy little xenomorph squirrel.

Is this really true? Wouldn’t he have been full-swing in his TV series at that time? I’m not finding other online documentation of this… though the idea is certainly tantalizing. It doesn’t sound though, thinking about it, that Ross would be drawn to Giger in the first place…

This doesn’t seem at all true, based on Ross’s overall dress and live for life and all things beautiful. Ross already had his own signature style and his own show at that time.

Picture obviously is photoshopped. The internet is full of use-full information while a part of it is rubbish. Don’t believe anything you read.
